Building a Brighter Smile for the South Coast
PVF is proud to have been there in the beginning as a first funder for both Sonrisas, a nonprofit dental center founded in 2001 to provide access to quality dental care and oral health education to low income families on the Coastside, and Puente, a nonprofit organization that works side by side with community members since 1998 to build and increase equity for all who call the Coastside home.
We are delighted to share with you Sonrisas’ and Puente’s exciting news on their capital campaign to expand dental services with their new Pescadero Mobile Dental Clinic, below!

Sonrisas Dental Health and Puente are thrilled to announce the successful completion of their $800,000 capital campaign to expand dental services on the Coastside with their new mobile clinic.
For more than 15 years, Sonrisas Dental Health has partnered with Puente, a core agency fostering wellness and opportunity on the South Coast of San Mateo County, to provide consistent access to high-quality dental care services to farmworkers and underserved residents. The Pescadero Mobile Dental Clinic is an important interim solution to increase access to preventive, diagnostic, and restorative care, delivered consistently and locally, and will continue to complement services even after the permanent clinic opens.
The new Mobile Dental Clinic has been ordered, equipped with two dental chairs and a wheelchair lift, and the mobile unit is expected to arrive within 12 months. With the mobile clinic, Sonrisas will be able to increase service from 1 to 4-5 days per week; supporting up to 50 dental appointments per week. They will provide increased access for over 800 Coastside residents with Medi-Cal who currently lack adequate dental care.
This success wouldn’t have been possible without support from individuals and organizations such as the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, Health Plan of San Mateo, Atkinson Foundation, and the William G. Irvine Charity Foundation. PVF is proud to have been able to contribute support with a $15,000 grant.
As they continue to develop their implementation plan, they invite you to help name the mobile clinic. You can send suggestions to: development@sonrisasdental.org.
Together, they are building smiles and expanding futures!
