What

Many young people in Oakland are still reeling from the mental health crisis caused by the intensity of the pandemic, violence in the community, and the pressures of poverty and systemic racism. When we asked youth what they needed for healing, they spoke in a chorus, “we need safe, fun, places to be with our friends and adults who care about us”. Healing comes from connection, belonging, a place where you can be yourself.

The Oakland Joy and Wellness Fund provides rapid response grants to youth programs and schools for projects and events that bring young people together.

We fund two types of grants:

  • Youth Worker/ Teacher Grants of up to $1,500
  • Program or School Grants of up to $10,000
