Eyes of ALAS: A Photographic Exhibition

 In PVF News

Sheryl Young, PVF’s San Mateo County Program Director, recently traveled to Half Moon Bay to attend “Through the Eyes of ALAS”, an exquisite yet emotional photographic tribute to our farm workers. This event was the first photographic exhibition from ALAS, capturing the spirit of our community, and displayed at the Coastal Arts League Gallery.

Last summer during the height of the COVID pandemic, ALAS began visiting 5 farms in Half Moon Bay on Fridays to deliver food, water, and masks to farm workers and their families. This exhibit showcases photos of the proud farmworkers and their stories, including images of a commute bicycle against the barn, a 5 gallon jug of water for 17 workers per day, and a 70+ year old man who tells us that if he doesn’t work, his family doesn’t eat.

PVF is proud to provide grants to ALAS for their work through the generosity of our donors, and we are thankful and grateful for the Coastside farm worker community.
