Our Programs > Science Resource Grants Program

“So often we are confined to the walls of our classrooms, even though our subject — biology — lends itself to going outside,” said Jessica Tiatia, high school biology teacher at Westmoor High School, Daly City, Calif. “One hundred-thirty high school biology students experienced firsthand how beautiful and rich the wetlands can be through a science resource grant. Often people consider these areas useless, but wetlands are important fish and bird sanctuaries, an environmental lesson that we were able to give our kids.”

Science Resource Grants For Public School Teachers - Conservation Focus

What: This year's focus is on CONSERVATION. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to teachers to enhance their classroom science programs relating to conservation. Requests may be for educational field trips (local and not overnight), classroom science materials, classroom science presentations, or professional development. Students need to cover part of the admission cost for field trips. Examples: projects and fieldtrips related to the study of wetland and creek restoration, renewable energy, recycling, environmental problems, watershed pollution, and the protection of ecological systems, habitats and species.

Who: Any public school teacher, K-12, in the Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, or Santa Cruz County Public School System is eligible to apply. A maximum of three grants will be awarded to a school. Collaboration encouraged for joint activities (up to $500) between same grade level teachers.
