“The girl's writing workshop with Opal Palmer Adisa was a terrific event that we were able to offer to these special girls in Juvenile Hall, due to the generosity of your foundation.  The girls wrote Blues Poems, in the context of getting your blues (and feelings) out on paper through writing.  As you can see from the feelings expressed in the poems, visits like these mean a lot!” - Amy Cheney, Alameda County Library/Write to Read, Juvenile Hall Literacy Program, San Leandro, California

This author writing workshop was funded by a Librarian Resource Grant.  Librarian Resource Grants are awarded to public librarians in the San Francisco Bay Area with innovative projects to encourage children and youth to read, and has been funded for five years by the Sand Hill Foundation and other PVF donors.

As I sit in my hall cell
As I sit in my hall cell
I start to raise hell because
I sit in my cell
As I sit in my hall cell
As I sit in my hall cell
As I sit in the cell I watch
The walls collide as my life
Pass me by

- blues poem by Lakeesha, 16 years old, while in Alameda County Juvenile Hall
